The texture of the skin received less attention in this process. However, the deterioration of skin quality is not remedied with a lift. Yet this poor quality is a concern for many. Hence, many treatments have recently come on the market to improve the skin.<\/p>\n<p>Many of these treatments purport to rejuvenate the skin. Most are performed by non-medical practitioners such as beauticians. However, these treatments lack 'evidence-based medicine'. This means that the result is not established. That the benefit is not proven. Despite pretty before and after marketing pictures that would prove otherwise. Marketing cleverly plays on the placebo effect : the treatment tickles a bit and causes some redness, and the user thinks it works because of this.<\/p>\n<p>The chemical peel and laser peel, on the other hand, are indeed evidence-based medicine, or medicine based on proven facts. Fine wrinkles run criss-cross, map-shaped. Usually at the mouth and eyes, but also elsewhere. Chemical peeling and laser then bring the solution. Both deliver the same result. We prefer the chemical peel to the laser because of its lower price tag and faster healing. Getting back to work and taking up social activities quickly is important. Moreover, in addition to improvement, the peel also delivers a tightening of the skin. A lifting effect, in other words. And the colour of the skin improves. Ideal against pigmentation.<\/p>\n<h2>\n\t\t\tHow does a peel work?\t<\/h2>\n\t<p>The peel, like the laser, burns the top layer of skin containing the wrinkles. The laser works with heat, the peel with a highly diluted acid. This medically controlled burn does not cause scarring. The peel, or rather its healing, initiates a complex biochemical process, including cell division. This is birth of new skin cells, and production of collagen and elastin. These are important building blocks. Skin cells are the bricks, collagen and elastin the masonry. Ageing is characterised by crumbling of this masonry, and it leads to sagging and wrinkling. Beauticians deal with it. It creates a strong tingle and some redness, giving one the idea of some effect. But the peel is too light to be effective. It is harmless, though.<\/p>\n<p>The trichloroacetic acid peel or TCA peel is a classic, reserved for plastic surgeons and dermatologists. It is the equivalent of about 10 to 15 fruit acid peels combined. Different concentrations are possible according to need, area and type of wrinkle. The pioneer of this is the American <a href=\"https:\/\/www.obagi.com\/patients\/why-obagi\/before-after\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Dr. Zein Obagi<\/a>, a dermatologist.<\/p>\n<p>The croton oil peel is new in Europe. Authority in this field is American Dr. Richard Bensimon, a plastic surgeon. This is perhaps the most performing peel. Different concentrations are possible depending on the area and type of wrinkles.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\tWhich areas are peeling?\n\t\t\t\t<p>Eyes and crow's feet produce the most spectacular results. About a third of our surgical eye corrections are combined with a peel because of its high yield. If a peel is also needed elsewhere, for example around the mouth, it is best done by peeling the entire face. Half an hour later, all discomfort is gone.<br \/>The peeling is therefore done under the intake of paracetamol going up to a local anaesthetic, possibly with sedation.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\tWhen can I return to work after a peel?\n\t\t\t\t<p>A peel brings swelling, and shedding. As a result, count on about 10 days of work incapacity. Redness may persist. Make-up is allowed in the meantime.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\tWhy can't I get peeled during the summer?\n\t\t\t\t<p>To avoid brown spots and hyperpigmentation. UV radiation from the sun excites pigment cells. If sun exposure occurs at the same time as a peel or laser treatment, these cells become dysregulated, resulting in dark spots.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\tWhy shouldn't I go under a sunbed after a peel?\n\t\t\t\t<p>Solariums age the skin. So there is an opposite effect between tanning bed and peel. However, the peel heals a little faster than the laser. Nevertheless, a peel is cheaper than the laser. This is due to the high purchase price of the laser device. The technology of this device is also quickly outdated, so it depreciates in a very short period of time.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\tCan a peel also be used against scars?\n\t\t\t\t<p>Yes, the TCA peel in particular is used against acne scars. However, the results are less spectacular than against wrinkles.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\tHow long will the redness last?\n\t\t\t\t<p>Redness is a positive phenomenon. It indicates increased blood flow to the skin, production of collagen and elastin and renewal of cells. Redness remains for several weeks and then gradually disappears. Make-up is allowed in the meantime.<br \/>With the CO2 laser, the redness lasts even longer than with a peel.<br \/>With an Erbium laser, redness is then somewhat less, but this laser is also much less effective.<br \/>Our preference is for the peel over the laser.
