Treatment
The cause of abnormal breast formation in men is not always clear. From teenage age, breast formation can occur. Some drugs can also cause breast formation as a side effect. Sometimes obesity is the cause.
Breast formation in men can take many forms. Sometimes it is simply a hard disc behind the nipple that is also painful. In other cases, an almost feminine breast arch develops that is visible under a tight T-shirt. The psychological repercussions of this problem are great. Sports, swimming or visiting the sauna are usually hell and avoided.
What does the intervention consist of?
Either excess fat or glandular tissue needs to be removed. An ultrasound shows the difference between fat and gland. Fat tissue is extracted with vibroliposculpture. This incredibly fast vibrating liposculpture also torches the glandular tissue, so this is also aspirated away along with the fat. If excess glandular tissue still remains, it is removed via an incision in the nipple.

Important information
Scar
More than three quarters of patients achieve a perfect result with vibroliposculpture of the breast. As the glandular and fatty tissue is aspirated away through a 4 mm wide tube in the armpit, there is no scar.
In a minority, excess glandular tissue must be removed through the nipple. The wound is subcutaneously sutured and glued, leaving an almost invisible scar. Any excess skin is not cut away because the skin spontaneously recomposes.
Recovery
After resting for an hour, you may go home. You will also hardly feel any pain. You can relieve any pain with classic painkillers (paracetemol and ibuprofen). After one or two days you can return to work.
Usually, a drainage tube is not necessary. After the procedure, you will have to wear an elastic thoracic band day and night for four weeks. This band ensures that the excess skin sticks nicely back to the underlying chest muscles. Swelling may persist for 2 to 3 weeks.
Possible risks
In healthy people, this is a very safe procedure. The area around the nipple may be temporarily less sensitive. Infection rarely occurs. The thoracic band prevents fluid accumulation and subsequent bleeding.
Anaesthetic
Usually a local anaesthetic with sleeping anaesthetic is sufficient. Sometimes a light general anaesthetic is needed. The advantage of this is that you will feel much fitter after the procedure. You will not suffer any unpleasant side effects from the classic anaesthetic. An overnight stay at the clinic is therefore unnecessary. Local anaesthesia not only ensures a painless procedure, but also minimises blood loss and bruising.
Precautions
All our procedures are performed in the safest conditions by the plastic surgeon.
Although a gynaecomastia is usually done under local anaesthetic, you will still be continuously monitored (automatic, repeated blood pressure readings, constant oxygen saturation readings, electrocardiogram) by the surgeon during the procedure. In addition, sterility measures are strictly observed. Sometimes antibiotics are also administered. Only this way of working guarantees the highest possible safety for you as a patient.
If you are taking blood-thinning medications, please inform your plastic surgeon in advance (e.g. acetylsalicylic acid, asaflow, cardioaspirin, dipiridamole, plavix, sintrom, marevan and others).
After your procedure, you will be given your plastic surgeon's personal mobile phone number so that you feel safe.
