Eyelid correction (Blepharoplasty)

Treatment

Eyes are the mirrors of the face. With too much skin on the upper eyelids or thick pockets of fat under the eyes, you look permanently tired. An eyelid correction of the upper and/or lower eyelids can make your wilted look radiant again. A younger and fresher appearance is the result. Eyelid surgery is currently among the top 3 most frequently performed procedures in plastic surgery.

Chemical peel of the eyelids

When eyelid skin is grey in colour or full of fine wrinkles, a trichloroacetic acid peel or a croton oil peel can provide new skin texture. This peel scrapes away the superficial bad layer, creating new younger-looking skin. This peel is sometimes combined with eyelid surgery.

Lower eyelids

Eye bags are caused by bulging fat lobes and/or excess skin. During correction, both excess skin and fatty tissue are removed. An incision is made just below the eyelashes or on the inside of the eyelid, leaving no scar.

Upper eyelids

An upper eyelid correction involves cutting away the excess skin, which in some cases literally diminishes the size of the eyes. The removal of excess skin is done in a skin fold.

Important information

scar

Scar

In eyelid surgery, cuts are placed in natural skin folds or on the inside of the eyelid, making scars barely visible. With proper aftercare, such as using scar cream and sun protection, they usually fade quickly.

risks

Possible risks

Eyelid correction is one of the most frequently performed aesthetic surgeries. Performed by an experienced plastic surgeon, it is a very safe operation that always gives spectacular results.

recovery

Recovery

After the procedure, you may go home after resting for an hour. However, you will not be allowed to drive home by car alone.

Any pain after the procedure can be relieved with classic painkillers such as ibuprofen or paracetamol.

The day after the procedure, the eyes are most swollen. The eyes may also tear, causing you to see less sharply. With a single eyelid correction, the blue spots disappear after about 8 days. With a double correction, it may take a little longer. If you need to go outside, you can wear sunglasses. After the procedure, you may cool the area around the eyes with ice or wear gel glasses. In practice, however, the effect of these has been found to be ineffective.

The non-visible subcutaneous suture is removed within the week to achieve an invisible line.

Normally, you can return to work after three days. Work absence is slightly longer if you have a job that involves a lot of contact with customers.

anaesthetic

Anaesthetic

Usually, local anaesthesia is sufficient. A short-acting sedative is administered to nervous patients. This anaesthesia can come in several gradations, up to and including a sleeping anaesthetic.

precautions

Precautions

All our procedures are performed in the safest conditions by the plastic surgeon assisted by a professional team.

Although eyelid surgery is usually done under local anaesthetic, you will still be continuously monitored during the procedure (automatic, repeated blood pressure readings, constant oxygen saturation readings, electrocardiogram). One or two fully qualified nurses are part of the team.

Only this method guarantees the highest possible safety for you as a patient.

Local anaesthesia not only ensures a pain-free procedure, but also minimal blood loss and bruising.

If you are taking blood-thinning drugs, please inform the doctor in advance (e.g. acetylsalicylic acid, asaflow, cardioaspirin, dipiridamole, plavix, sintrom, marevan and others).

After your procedure, you will be given your surgeon's personal mobile phone number so that you feel safe.
